This is a larger piece that I am currently working on, 48" x 72" (how do you like my easel, I made it myself). I've done my drawing using acrylic paint and now that I have a couple of oil paintings under my belt, am proceeding with same. It is somewhat of a daunting task, but nonetheless exciting. There's no substitute for the impact of a larger piece and this one represents a trip to Portugal and will hang in our entrance if all goes well. This street in Lisbon is quite famous (Ruo Augusto) and leads into the Triumphal Arch. There are so many amazing sights and sites in that country that I would highly recommend it as a vacation destination. I took this picture and then in the drawing stage encountered some issues. I punched up Lisbon in Google pictures and virtually found the same shots and was able to make sense of a couple of things. I'll post some updates as I go. Suggestions are gratefully welcomed as I git it on with this monster. I haven't worked out colors or how loosely I want to proceed yet. But that's me, fly by the seat of your pants Vern. I should do a small color sketch...ah we'll see.

  1. Vern this is going to be a magnificent piece! You are going to jump in with Oils!? That's Brave. Very nice the easel you've constructed... are those banana boxes from the hotel?

  2. No, they aren't really good banana boxes. Definitely not that fancy.

  3. Alice, I thought he said he was going to wuss out and keep going with the acrylics but maybe I misunderstood.

Vern, I'm about to go out of town so that's why I can't get to the blog finagling yet. I will though! Don't let the traffic thingy bother you, I know people are checking to see if other artists wrote their tagtalk yet, etc. It doesn't feed my colossal ego as much as it might suggest. Besides, I'm a compulsive blog checker myself (hoping to see new work/progress) so trust me, I'm always happy to see return visitors. Besides, it's just the towns and I know it could be anyone's art friends too. Check around, a lot of people have a traffic thingy too.

Oh, this drawing you did looks amazing, this could Really be something -- I'll be checking back! (good thing you don't have a traffic thingy yet)

  6. Hey Vern,

I have a "tripod" that's kind of like your "easel..." only I pile the boxes on top of a pedestal that I have....one of these days I will obtain the real thing but until then, it'll have to do! I agree on the size issue...the impact of a large painting is huge, but the stakes are higher too. I guess that's what makes it so exciting. (I was surprised at how much more paint is involved also)! Nice image you have from Portugal. Looking forward to seeing the progress.

  7. Your "tripod" sounds pretty technical Paula, wink, and having seen your work, I would say that it works pretty darn good. A lot of paint you say. Well if you break it down, it's kind of like doing 96 - 6"x 6"paintings. Man I hope it doesn't take as long. lol Thanks for the comments.
