Lisbon in progress

Before I leave for Liz's workshop, I thought I would post an update photo of the Lisbon painting (48" x 72") that, yes, I'm STILL working on. This has been a long process of painting, looking, tweaking, painting then looking, looking and more looking. I feel good about it so far, and don't think there are any major changes to be made, but a lot of tune-ups. All you great artists out there, any helpful comments to help make this piece as good as it can be, would be appreciated. Email me if you like. vschwarz18@gmail.com I'm still working on the foreground, couple on the left, guy on right, tables, chairs and shadows. Thanks everyone!

  1. Vern, this baby is killer. I am so admiring of your talent. The way you have been mindful of things fading progressively into the distance (atmospheric progression is that called?) is notable and wonderful. Looking at this up close is really a lesson for me, I'll be back to stare at it more (stalking) :D Have a great time at Liz's workshop.

  3. Vern , Great tweaking since I saw it last. Just a little comment here the little triangle between the arm and the body on Alice should it be the tablecloth color ?
Looking at it close is just Beautiful.

  5. Welcome back Vern! The art world has missed your unique spirit. I can't wait to see what you learned in action. Hope it was a fruitful endeavor for you. And thanks for the nice things you said about my Zach and Rio. Made me happy. So, send me the yellow lab, I wanna see :) And no, you can't unpack first.

  6. Hi Vern,

I hesitate to say anything besides "This painting is amazing!" - and it is... but you are asking for comments to improve it, so here goes... There is the one little triangle (which was mentioned by another person) that needs some paint, and the man on the left side of the painting in a green jacket confuses me. He has what appears to be a very short sleeve for a jacket, with no arm, elbow or hand extending from it.
Tackling a painting of this magnitude is so daunting - bravo for you!!!

  7. Hi Joanne, thanks a bunch for your imput. The green guy on the left is holding something, but I think his arm looks a little short in this particular photo. I'll punch that up a little. I wanted to create interest by varying positions, postures etc. and this guy is also twisting a little like he's going to turn to go into a store. I'm going to your blog now. Cheers!

  8. Vern, Your Lisbon piece is beautiful. I especially like how you keep our eye dancing right around the whole painting. I'm enjoying seeing your progress.

I tagged you by the way. I don't know if you've already been tagged or if you even have time for that. Don't worry if you don't want to play. It's no big deal.

  9. Vern...a big tip of the beret for this piece. It is absolutely marvelous. I'm starting a series on the streets of Granada, Nicaragua, and I'm going to keep in mind this piece for inspiration. I hope mine turn out a fraction as well. Great work.
