Kay Lybrand Portrait Challenge

This was my favorite DSFDF challenge in that I love portraits and figurative paintings. It also became even more fun with some new artists participating, bringing the total to 130 face painters. ha. My subject was a lovely lady named Kay Lybrand and she is painting my portrait. Can hardly wait to see all the submissions this week, as the ones so far have been fantastic. Happy New Year to everyone. Thanks for all your interest and support this year. I wish you all the very best.

  8. Yo Vern, this portrait is very nice. She has such a warm, friendly look! You were a good detective to find that identity of your rendition. I have looked high and low, and can't make that discovery as of yet. Some of us, still await that magic moment of truth...LOL. I can't wait.

  10. Lucky Lady!!
    I'm sure she'll be thrilled.
Karin's Challeng blog is so interesting to see how each artist adds a bit of him/herself to whatever subject they choose.
This challenge was especially interesting because portraits carry even more meaning in them all by themselves.

GREAT JOB........... Have a wonderful 2009!

  16. Hello Vern,
I love the portrait! I have just started on yours, you have set the bar pretty high. I thought after I sent in the photo, that I should have sent one in without the glasses, but you did a great job with them.
    Thank you,
    Kay

  17. Hi Vern, Love your painting, very sensitive rendering and wonderful technique. I'm one of the newbies to Karin's challenge and am having as much fun connecting with terrific artists as I had working on the painting. (great blog too) Here's to a painterly new year!

  18. Akiko, thank you so much for your kind words. And thankfully, it looks like Kay approves.

Hello Kay, I am glad to meet you and so happy that you like your portrait. Your glasses look like they are part of who you are, so it's better that you left them on. Can't wait to see your work. I'll mail you this painting if you like, just email me your address. vschwarz18@gmail.com

  23. Vern,

Thank you much for the comments on my portrait. I am just beginning painting- hoping to find my niche- and it is always nice to hear compliments from superiors. It seems like each time there is a new challenge I end up looking for your name. You do excellent work and I look up to you in a HUGE way! Thanks again!

  28. Vern,

I figured it out! You have another blog page and you put the portrait I painted on it for your picture. I am flattered!!!! You have made my day, maybe even the month! You have no idea what a boost you have made to my ego. I don't know if your portrait of me looks like me now that I have a "Big Head".
    Thank you!!
    Kay

  31. Vern, your portrait of Kaye is beautiful, very softly rendered. And I love the painting you are working on, very challenging with all the figures and architecture. I'll be back to check your blog, for sure.

  33. Vern, your kind comments on my blog mean a lot coming from someone as talented as yourself. Really great job on the portrait! It looks like it would be tough with her glasses and fabric folds and buttons, so many details to be conscious of. You pulled it all off though, it turned out beautifully!
